What do these four questions actually ask for?

This is four unrelated questions submitted as one document, and treating it as a single essay is the first mistake. Duty to warn in mental health nursing, reproductive endocrinology, a free-choice anatomy topic and food additives share no thread, and no introduction can honestly connect them. Write four separate answers under four headings. The uniform requirements are what bind the document: MLA format, a minimum of 150 words for each question, and academic sources to support your answers. Note that the brief's final line is cut off mid-instruction — *find 2 academic resources to support your answer for* — so whether two sources are needed per question or overall is genuinely unclear from the record. Two per question is the safer reading, and it costs little. If in doubt, say in a footnote which reading you took, so a marker can see the choice was deliberate.

Question 1's case is an attachment that is not part of this record, but the topic is entirely knowable and the marks sit in precision. The precedent is *Tarasoff v. Regents of the University of California*, and it is really two rulings: Tarasoff I in 1974 established a duty to **warn** identifiable potential victims, and Tarasoff II in 1976 replaced it with the broader duty to **protect** — which can require hospitalisation, involving family, or removing means, not merely a phone call. Most answers say 'duty to warn' and stop there, which is the superseded formulation. The governing principle is the tension between confidentiality and third-party safety, summarised in the court's own line that the protective privilege ends where the public peril begins. Naming both rulings takes one sentence and immediately separates your answer from the common version.

Question 2 is the one most often misread, and the misreading is about register rather than content. Angela is a lay reader writing to an *Ask the Expert* column. She has already found the technical explanation — she pastes a paragraph about oestrogen and progestin suppressing the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis, gonadotropin-releasing hormone, luteinising hormone and follicle-stimulating hormone — and she says plainly that it confused her further. So reproducing that paragraph in your own answer fails the actual task. You are being assessed on whether you can translate the mechanism into something a non-specialist understands, which is harder than restating it and is exactly what a columnist does. A useful test: could Angela repeat your explanation back to her husband? If not, it is still too technical for the brief.

The physiology has a genuinely satisfying shape once you see it, and saying it plainly will lift the answer. Both drugs act on the same feedback loop, in opposite directions. The combined pill supplies steady progestin and oestrogen, which produces negative feedback at the hypothalamus, slows GnRH pulses, lowers FSH and LH, and so removes the mid-cycle LH surge that releases an egg — no surge, no ovulation. Clomiphene is a selective oestrogen receptor modulator that blocks oestrogen receptors at the hypothalamus, so the brain stops seeing the negative feedback signal, gonadotropins rise instead of falling, and follicles are driven to develop. One drug silences the axis; the other deafens it to its own off-switch. Say that sentence explicitly rather than leaving the symmetry for the reader to notice on their own.

The follow-up about pregnancy needs care, because the doctor's phrase is an analogy rather than a mechanism. A pregnant woman does not ovulate because after implantation the embryo produces human chorionic gonadotropin, which sustains the corpus luteum and its progesterone output until the placenta takes over at around twelve weeks; that sustained progesterone keeps the same negative feedback in place, so no new follicle matures and no LH surge occurs. The pill reproduces the *feedback state* — steady progestin dominance suppressing gonadotropins — without any of the pregnancy machinery: no hCG, no corpus luteum being rescued, no placenta. Saying which part of the analogy holds and which does not is precisely the understanding Angela asked for. Being clear about the limits of an analogy is itself a demonstration of understanding, and it is what she actually asked for.

Hormonal contraceptive use also leads to an increase in the viscosity of the cervical mucus, which inhibits sperm penetration and movement through the cervical canal. Example #2: My dog’s bloodwork indicated that his calcium was high and his urine showed low specific gravity (too much water). These could be early warning signs of kidney failure or bone cancer. In bone cancer, osteoclasts break down the bone faster than it is rebuilt thus releasing calcium into the blood stream. This is also true of old age (osteoporeosis). My dog is 9 years old, so this could be just normal wear & tear associated with aging. I know from the skeletal chapter and endocrine chapter that the kidneys are stimulated by PTH to reabsorb calcium from the urine. If the kidneys are failing, this would not occur and calcium levels would remain high. These high levels may also indicate a problem with the endocrine glands that secrete the hormones that regulate calcium absorption. ***Read and Answer Question 4 below** Question 4: We tend to regularly consume certain food products.
