Culturally competent nursing care video reflection

The unusual instruction here is the first one: identify the videos you watched and provide the titles and the URLs. That turns a reflective exercise into one with an evidence trail, and it constrains everything after it. An assessor reading your answers can open the videos and check whether what surprised you is actually in them. So the choice of videos is a real decision rather than a formality, and picking three substantial ones beats picking eight thin ones. Look for material that shows an encounter rather than material that defines cultural competence, because an encounter gives you something concrete to be surprised by. A recorded consultation with an interpreter, a family conference where a decision maker is not the patient, or a practitioner describing a misjudgement will each generate more usable observation than a lecture. Note the timestamp of the moment you react to as you watch; you will not find it again afterwards.

Two of the five questions do real work and three are warm-ups. The barriers question and the quality and safety question are where the marks concentrate, because both ask you to generalise from what you saw to nursing practice. On barriers, resist the single-cause answer that everything reduces to language; time pressure, reliance on family members as interpreters, assumptions about who speaks for a patient, and the absence of interpreter services at night are all distinct and all fixable. On quality and safety, be concrete about the causal path: a misunderstood medication instruction is a safety event, an unasked question about traditional remedies is an interaction risk, and a patient who does not return is a continuity failure. The last question asks for two areas of awareness about yourself, so write about your own practice rather than about nursing in the abstract, and keep both inside the page limit.
