Why only the package insert will do

The instruction that decides this post is the last one: you must look at the package insert from the company, because no other source carries the extent of information required. Drug monographs on clinical websites summarise; a manufacturer's prescribing information reports the actual study values, and the assignment lists exactly the fields that only appear there — enzyme activity, onset and duration of action, area under the curve, absorption and distribution including maximal plasma concentration. Go to the FDA label or the manufacturer's prescribing information, find section 12, and work through its subsections. Section 12.1 gives you mechanism of action, 12.2 pharmacodynamics, and 12.3 pharmacokinetics with the numbers. Quoting a number without its units or its population is the commonest way this post loses marks, so carry the units and say whether the value came from healthy volunteers or from patients with the condition the drug is licensed to treat.

Keep the two halves of the pharmacology straight as you write, because the post asks about both and they answer different questions. Pharmacodynamics is what the drug does to the body: receptor binding, enzyme inhibition or induction, the concentration-effect relationship. Pharmacokinetics is what the body does to the drug: absorption, distribution, metabolism and elimination, which is where maximal plasma concentration, time to that peak, area under the curve and half-life live. The food question sits at the junction of the two and has a real answer in the insert — food may slow or increase absorption, a high-fat meal may raise the area under the curve, or the drug may need an acidic stomach or need protecting from one. Say which of those applies to your drug, give the direction and size of the change, and cite the exact subsection you took it from rather than reciting the general rule about food.

NSG 6005 Week 2 Assignment 1 DQ 2 One or two sentence responses, simple statements of agreement or “good post,” and responses that are off-topic will not count as substantive. Substantive responses should be at least 150 words. I encourage you to incorporate the readings from the week (as applicable) into your responses. Weekly Participation Your initial responses to the mandatory DQ do not count toward participation and are graded separately. In addition to the DQ responses, you must post at least one reply to peers (or me) on three separate days, for a total of three replies. Participation posts do not require a scholarly source/citation (unless you cite someone else’s work). Part of your weekly participation includes viewing the weekly announcement and attesting to watching it in the comments. These announcements are made to ensure you understand everything that is due during the week. APA Format and Writing Quality Familiarize yourself with APA format and practice using it correctly. It is used for most writing assignments for your degree. Cite all sources of information! When in doubt, cite the source. Paraphrasing also requires a citation. I highly recommend using the APA Publication Manual, 6th edition. Use of Direct Quotes I discourage overutilization of direct quotes in DQs and assignments at the Masters’ level and deduct points accordingly. As Masters’ level students, it is important that you be able to critically analyze and interpret information from journal articles and other resources. Simply restating someone else’s words does not demonstrate an understanding of the content or critical analysis of the content. It is best to paraphrase content and cite your source.
