DNP 801 Topic 8: evaluating the literature
The instruction to revise before evaluating is not housekeeping. Feedback from earlier topics is what the college expects to see acted on, and an unrevised PICOT makes the evaluation an assessment of the wrong question.

Revise first, then evaluate
Do the revision before the evaluation, because the assignment says so and because the order matters. Feedback on your PICOT question and annotations from earlier topics is the college's way of steering the project, and evaluating a body of literature against a question you have already been told to change wastes the whole paper. Go through the feedback point by point and say, at least to yourself, what each revision changed — a narrowed population, a measurable outcome, an intervention scoped down. Then the evaluation proper, which is a synthesis rather than six paragraphs about six studies. The five questions the assignment lists are the structure, and they move from description toward judgement: where the themes are similar and different, where the data support the conclusions, where the conclusions answer the research question, what you would ask the authors, and how the evidence refines your PICOT or your project.
The middle three are the ones that separate an evaluation from a summary. Data supporting the conclusion is a real check and it frequently fails in small ways: an underpowered study reporting no difference and concluding there is none, a secondary outcome discussed as though it were primary, or a statistically significant result whose effect size would not change practice. Conclusions answering the research question is a different check again — studies routinely conclude something adjacent to what they set out to test. The question you would ask the authors should be a real methodological question rather than a polite one: how the sample was recruited, what happened to those lost to follow-up, why that outcome measure. Then close on what all this does to your PICOT — whether the evidence supports the intervention you planned, points to a different one, or reveals the gap that becomes your project's justification.
