Nursing theory

What each nursing theory question is really asking, how to structure the answer, and where the marks are likely to sit.

Select one of the four nursing metaparadigm concepts, describe its significance to your own nursing practice, and compare and contrast two nursing theorists' definitions or interpretations of that concept, supported by peer-reviewed evidence.

Find a peer-reviewed nursing research article that uses a grand or middle-range nursing theory as its theoretical framework, present it, describe how the theory guided the study, and discuss how theoretical frameworks strengthen nursing research and promote theory-based practice.

Describe how nursing knowledge and theory development define nursing as a profession, explain how applying theory benefits you personally and advances the profession, say how your answer has changed since your Week 1 post, and name the theory you expect to affect your practice most.

The paper is called an evaluation, and the marks are in section four — the one that applies a set of criteria to two theories rather than describing what each theory says.

Two theorists, one case and a history section — and the two theories answer different questions, which is the point rather than an inconvenience.

A one-page APA discussion post with two references, based on the chapter readings, explaining how the concept of Modeling and Role Modeling applies to nursing and how the Theory of Integral Nursing would benefit our community, with responses to two classmates.

An NSG 5002 concept synthesis paper of four to six pages collating work from weeks one to three into a personal nursing philosophy, containing a nursing autobiography, a documented perspective on the four metaparadigms, at least two practice-specific concepts, and a numbered list of at least five propositions connecting them, using Virginia Henderson's nursing theory and current APA format.

An end-of-course reflection whose evidence base is the course itself: five objectives each needing a named piece of coursework against it, plus a forward-looking answer that only works once you name the specialty and the credential.

A NUR 513 Topic 4 discussion post comparing and contrasting two nursing theories, explaining how they differ in intent, scope and goals, and identifying which one might be more relevant to your future advanced practice role and why.

Five sub-questions hide in this prompt, and behaviour change is the one that gets dropped. A theory that cannot tell you why a patient changed is not doing any work in your answer.

Two requirements decide the grade and both need literature: evidence for the model's efficacy in practice, and three evidence-based examples each carrying its own support and rationale. Description alone will not reach them.

The third question is the practical one and it is where posts thin out: how you would select a theory and actually introduce it into practice. Selection implies criteria, and introduction implies a change process.

Actualize is a doing word. The nurse in this case does almost nothing — and describing what that nothing consists of, in Parse's terms, is the assignment.

Three paragraphs is not much for two theorists, so give each one paragraph and spend the third on what the assignment actually says it is for: the nature, scope and *limits* of scientific thinking.

It is a revision, so open with what you changed — then keep the three CTE levels genuinely distinct instead of writing the theory three times.

Choose the two theories for what they let you argue, not for what you admire. One question asks about inciting behaviour change and another asks about the ethics of integrating them — both need theories with an applied literature.

A paper identifying the family nurse practitioner specialty, selecting the Synergy Model of Patient Care, briefly identifying the concepts of the nursing metaparadigm the theory addresses, and giving an example of how the theory could be used to improve or evaluate quality of practice in that setting, using articles from 2014 to the present.

A Topic 5 discussion post identifying an area in your specialty that needs improvement, naming the nursing theories that could be applied to that problem, and explaining why one of them is the best theory for it.

A twenty-five word prompt with two hard constraints: first-person voice as your chosen theorist, and the C-T-E structure as the thing being described. Most posts satisfy neither.
